For me Carolyn Massey is the perfect designer! She seems to capture two very distinct looks, a simple, sophisticated and classic British sensibility with a deeper edgier undertone which sets her miles apart from many menswear designers. The S/S 2010 collection is said to be influenced by two books, Tibur Kalman's 'Un-Fashion' and Jackie Nickerson's 'Farm'. For the 'Farm' the author photographed small town's in rural Africa making portraits of workmen in factories, Massey was said to want to channel the masculine and functional dressing she found in both book’s. Nautical in a way was slightly reinvented with a colour scheme stone, mustard, cream and navy; detachable bags and backpacks were one specific item from the collection that I could take my eyes off of and make the perfect statement with any outfit. Slouchy rain macs in tones of beige and royal blue seem ideal for the British summer’s we all know too well. Another standout quality to the collection was Carolyn use of layering by having leggings/long johns under oversized shirts and bright yellow round neck top with a large pocket on the stomach over a simple stripe shirt. With every collection Carolyn Massey just gets better and better, if I ever get the chance to have a wardrobe full of her clothes I would be one extremely happy man.
