Dad was a risk taker, his was a shoe maker

I first saw Vampire Weekend play in 2007 in Camden Barfly, there wasnt many people there but from then on I knew they would be huge and low and behold there album went on to sell 100,000 copies and the last time I got to see them they played infront of thousands of punters on the main stage at Reading festival 09. The first album which was released in January 2008 was such a soundtrack, I played it all the time and it brings back pretty good memories of the first year of college. I was pretty unimpressed on first listening to Contra via streaming over the internet but I still thought I should buy the album even if I didnt like it very much as I wouldnt be a true VW fan if I didnt (Im pretty retarded in that way). Well it popped through the old letterbox during the week and Ive been playing it ever since, safe to say I now love it. My problem when I first heard it was that it didnt sound any different from the debut album but oh how wrong I was, on closer inspection you can relly hear a different sound from the new yorkers. I mean that west coast cape bod summers gossip girl upper classes maine new england hamptons whimsy is still very much there but I also think the album sound's more confident and experimental like the use of auto tune on califorinia english (Vampire Weekend and auto tune are two things I'd never put together) . The first album had this really magical charm and on Contra this still exists however everything just sounds bigger, the drums are louder the guitars are faster and onto the songs they have put a wide mix of synth beats, hip hop and reggae sounds. One of the love's of my life Ezra Koeing still sounds like a child but one that been around the block a more times than you ever will, his boyish falsetto now sound's more cutting and harsh. All in alll I love it and you should go buy it and love it like me.
