Recently I have become slightly obsessed with structure and simplicity within menswear so when I came across the Jill Sander spring/ summer 2011 collection I fell madly in love with everything that came down the runway. Raf Simons on his fifth year designing for Jill Sander has created a line that ranges from sharply tailored florals to clashing day-glow colours infused upon boxy jersey knits. Vibrant, precisely fitted shorts and trousers were with loud bright coloured shirts and jumpers yet still work perfectly well together, for example aqua tops worn with yellow slim fit pants would have most fashionista’s hurling chunks but in Simons effortlessly cool hands they were the perfect match. I’m personally crazy about the play on masculine/feminine design; a black crisp trouser married together with graphic floral shirts was a look that should be hanging in every fashion conscious male’s wardrobe for spring season. The standout pieces for me personally by far where pastel floral oversized t shirt which looks almost as though it was cut straight from a pensioners Sunday dress and the navy blazer belted tightly at the waist worn over a bold tangerine stripe top. With this collection Simons turned out a collection that truly does have something for everyone and yet again proved when it comes to wanting a simple yet beautifully designed garment Jill Sander would be the first place one would have to visit.
