Saturday afternoon I didn't have much on so I decided to sit at my laptop and watch live streaming of the Burberry Prorsum menswear Spring/Summer 2011 collection and from what I saw Chris Bailey is back on top form! With colour pallettes of beige, slate, black and beautiful sharp lines and wonderfully rigid silhouettes the military aesthetic Burberry is so well know for was turned on it's head and reinforced why it is one of the most sought after brands in the world. The trench coat which since taking over as creative directer in 2001 Bailey hasn't actually tried to tranform, instead choosing to play around with colour and shape throughout the years and he does the same again but this time covering the iconic trench in a stunning velvet/suede like fabrics. Loosely knitted almost golden jumpers lay under oversized full length coats and closely tailored cropped trousers a look I have already started to emulate. The personal highlight's of the collection for me were the leather pieces which lent towards a more edgier harder side but still keeping the Burberry sensibility, stiff contoured leather biker jackets and vests were covered in sharp punkish studs and sat perfectly with sheen pants nipped at the waist with delicate shirts and tops in pebble tones tucked in. Leather trousers reminiscent of tired 80's rocker were transformed by Bailey and sat perfectly alongside heavy knits and oversized khaki coloured trench coats. I just want it all?
